The City of Pickering’s Mayor, Members of Council, and staff share a strong and productive relationship with the Ontario Power Generation (OPG), particularly with the staff associated with the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.

Foremost, there is a steady two-way communication flow between the City and OPG. While the City is kept abreast of timely and important issues associated with the nuclear plant, OPG is also informed of relevant community programs, events and issues.

The relationship also includes established arrangements and opportunities for the City to dialogue with and engage OPG. For example, the Fire Protection and Emergency Management Memorandum of Understanding is a framework of co-operation between both parties that was established to strengthen communication and co-ordination efforts. In addition, a City staff member regularly attends the OPG Pickering  Community Advisory Council Meetings to hear and address issues directly at the community level.

Finally, OPG is a strong advocate and practitioner of corporate social responsibility. OPG’s significant contributions through employee volunteers and funding for environmental, educational, and community activities, demonstrate its commitment to the community and help to make Pickering one of the best places in Canada to live, work and play.
